It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Dr. J. Tom Connolly.  Tom passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday evening, Sept. 28, 2014.
Born March 13, 1933 to James Edward and Jessie Mary McMillan Connolly, Tom grew up and spent much of his adult life in Lockhart.  Upon graduation from Lockhart High School, he attended Texas A&M University (Class or ’55)

and completed his formal education at Baylor University College of Medicine.
Dr. Tom, as he became known to so many, was a shining example of a servant’s heart.  Choosing a professional life of service as a physician, he began by serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander Intern in the United States Navy.  He returned to Lockhart to build his private practice of 35 years.  Although he closed his practice in Lockhart, he continued his professional service in a variety of medical roles.
Tom served his community throughout the course of his life in numerous capacities, including tenured position on the Board of Directors of Lockhart National Bank, Member of Lockhart ISD School Board, medical physician for Lockhart High School football program, various committees at First United Methodist Church of Lockhart, and coaching his children’s sports teams.
At his core, Tom was devoted to those he loved most.  He joins our Heavenly Father and his parents, James Edward and Jessie Mary McMillan Connolly; and his brother, James Edward “Mack” Connolly.  Surviving Tom are his wife, Patricia Ann Price Connolly, of Austin; his children: Lisa Kay Helin, of Marietta, Ga., Robin Steele of Dacula, Ga., Edward Connolly, of Georgetown, and Dan Connolly, of Austin; his step-son, Craig Johnson, of Austin; his grandchildren: Nicole Sandlin, of Moscow, Russia, Katherine Steele and Matthew Steele, of Dacula, Georgia, “Boomer” Connolly of Nashville, Tenn.,  “Mac” Connolly and Jessie Connolly, of Austin; his great-granddaughter, Blakely Sandlin.

A memorial service celebrating Dr. Tom Connolly”s life will be held at First United Methodist Church-Lockhart on Monday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.

Dan: I recall very vividly how your dad would come over to the Judge Gambrell house across the street and play with my future wife, Nell Gambrell. He was just a small boy then, but always very pleasant and charming as was Mack, his older brother who, as you know, was tragically killed during WWII. Edward and Jessie were always laughing and talking to Tom and Josie and were treasured neighbors in those early days in good old Lockhart. Then, no one locked their home and if Jessie needed some sugar, she would come over to Josie’s house and get it. That is the way it was, then. I am pleased that I can still think of your dad as a young boy. Cordially, Harry

    Doc,
You will be truly missed by myself and your family. The people that knew you well knew the depth of your feelings for your family, friends and your patients. I know that you will be so happy finally being reunited with your parents and your brother. Goodbye…Robert Helin
