Clifton Harris
Clifton “Cliff” Harris, was born to Grant Harris, Sr., and Beulah Lee Sayles-Harris on Dec. 25, 1932 . He was the seventh of nine children.
He was a dedicated member of St. Marks United Methodist Church; served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee and sang in the choir until his health began to fail.
He met and married Alfay Kirksey, whereas her brother wa
s serving in the military and four sisters were dating soldiers, all eventually united with each of them. Clifton was then known to them and the family as“Cliff.”
Cliff served in the United States Air Force for 24 years, serving the country in Thailand,
Myrtle Beach, S.C., Lackland AFB in San Anotino, and retired from Bergstrom AFB in Austin as TSGT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Timothy Harris; three siblings, Earline Durham, Alma Marie James and Grant Harris, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Gladys M. Kirksey-Baker.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Alfay Kirksey-Harris; two sons, Wendell Harris (Betty Jean), of San Marcos, and Clifton Harris, Jr., (Shirley); three daughters: Sherry Lynn Harris-Sneed (Ralph), Tammy Harris and Paula Marie Harris-Villalobos (Joel), all of Lockhart; brothers, Nathan Harris (Sue), Clyde Harris (Darlene) and Jimmy Lee Harris, of San Marcos; sisters, Blanche Swisher-Lowe and Lorene Guyton, of Lubbock, Texas; brother-in-law, Floyd Kirksey, of Austin; sisters-in-law, Estella Kirksey-Davis (David), of Sommerville, Ohio, and Janice M. Kirksey-Williams (Worlis), of Lockhart; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, one of which, Jackie D. Harris-Crayton, he partially, nephews, cousins and close friends. A special Angel that is waiting on him is Uncle Ellis Sayles.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with Reverend Foster Roberts officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were: Stanley Batie, Leo Greene, Virgil Taylor, A.J. Lewis, Robert Lee Lewis and Marcellus Moore. Serving as the honorary pallbearers were: Clifford Harris, Melvin Harris, Royce Ellison and Terrence Williams. Serving as the flower bearers were: St. Mark’s UMC Board of Trustees and Finance Committee and St. Mark’s UMC Choir and Auxiliaries.
Burial followed at the Luling Civic Cemetery, Luling, Texas.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of my brother-in-law who was more like a brother to me.He was a great man who was never a stranger to anyone once you met him. He was so helpful and was always ready to assist you.Not only did he help family he did the same for friends. He loved his wife and his kids.R.I.P. and go meet the rest of the family who are waiting for you.Mama Frankie and Dad was waiting with open arms.
Cliff was one of my most treasured and dearest friends. He was a christian in all aspects of his life. His captivating smile warmed a many hearts and led him to make friends for life. He was full of wisdom and was always willing to share his wisdom and knowledge with anyone he encountered. He was truly a family man and a trusted friend. He loved the Lord and his family dearly as well as his friends. He will be greatly missed by both Dan and I. R.I.P. my buddy!
