Lockhart High School gyms were quite busy on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Both the Lions and the Lady Lions hosted opponents on the night before Thanksgiving break, making for an interesting evening of basketball.
The Lions hosted the Austin Travis Rebels during the double-header and despite their best attempts, no Lion team scored over

45 points. The Rebels were simply too fast, too confident and too aggressive.
The Varsity Lions lost 96-45. The JV Lions lost 61-43 and the Freshman Lions lost 52-45.
The Varsity Lions had the toughest time getting their game going on Tuesday night. It was not for lack of trying. They just could not recover from the fast and furious first quarter that left them with an 11-point deficit. At the end of the first quarter the Rebels had made their statement and continued to dominate for the rest of the game. First quarter ended at 24-13.
The second quarter sealed the deal for the Rebels. They scored an additional 23 points while allowing the Lions only seven points. The quarter ended at 47-20.
After halftime, the Lions came back with a little more game, but not enough to turn things around. The Rebels continued to score over 20 points in each quarter while the Lions could not hit enough baskets to get beyond 13 points a quarter. The third quarter ended at 71-33.
The fourth quarter was the highest-scoring quarter for the Rebels, who ended their night of play with 25 points, allowing only 12 final points from the Lions. The quarter and the game ended at 96-45.
Doing most of the scoring for the Lions was the only returning varsity player, Jonathan Gonzales, who scored a total of 17 points with four two-point shots, three free throw shots and two three-point shots. Joseph Torrez and Caesar Martinez each scored a total of eight points with four two-point shots a piece. Ryan Carrasco scored four points with a couple of two-point shots. Demetrious Joseph, Xavier Moore and Jason Sanders each made a two-point shot. Hector Rangel and Jeremiah Johnson made a free throw each.
The Lions faced Dripping Springs on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and will travel to Seguin for the Matador Classic Basketball tournament on Thursday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 1. Check in next week for game results.
See you at the game.
