Texas Legislature, first the House of Representatives in the Spring of 1999, then in the Fall of 2003, the Senate passed a resolution proclaiming Lockhart to be The Barbecue Capital of Texas.
Texas Monthly Magazine said Smitty’s Market and Kreuz Market are among the best in the state. Black’s Barbecue is known worldwide and Chisholm Trail Barbecue rounds out the city’s barbecue royalty.
