Chester Oval Harris was born in Dale, Texas, to Jake and Jimmie Ellen Pittman Harris on March 19, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Hershell Harris; and sister Loma Mullins. He has one surviving sister, Selma Roberts.

He finished school by the tenth grade in Dale doing old jobs at a gas station, the cotton gin, and raising turkeys to sell until he v

olunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1942. He worked on P-39 air-craft. He married Helen Meta Fahrig on Dec. 31, 1943, and was discharged from the service in 1945, returning to Lockhart to work at Lockhart Implement Company until he retired in 1986. He was a real mechanic and shop foreman that worked on Lincoln Continentals and farm tractors in the same shop. He liked raising cattle on the family farm.

He passed away on June 30, 2014.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Danny Harris and wife, Marty; his daughter Diane Rodgers and husband, Vance; grandchildren Michael Rodgers, Kathy Willette, Mary Forester, and Jason Harris; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled at McCurdy Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 5 – 7 p.m., with graveside services in the Lockhart City Cemetery on Thursday, July 3 at 10 a.m.
