Dolores S. Mayo, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Aug. 18, 2012. Born in Lockhart, Texas to Jose Maria and Anselma Sanchez on Jan. 7, 1928, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Felipe Mayo, her parents and six siblings.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Art); sons, Felipe and Carlos (Diana); and her stepdaughter, Cuca Duran; a

nd served as the proud, baking grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dolores dedicated her life to raising her children while instilling the most prominent value of education. An astute businesswoman and pioneer for Hispanic family-owned businesses, Dolores owned and operated Mayo’s Café for over 17 years in her hometown of Lockhart, Texas. Upon her retirement from the restaurant industry, Dolores and her husband moved to Austin to be closer to family where she became active in The Guadalupanas at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Del Valle Senior Community Center, and the Regency Widows’ Support Group.

She was a very active member of her community, developing a strong circle of friends who remained loyal and dear to her until her death.

The Holy Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Angel Funeral Home, 1600 S. First St., Austin, Texas. Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart, Texas, with internment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to the Greater Southwest Optimist Club, Scholarship Fund, at P.O. Box 40746, Austin, Texas 78704.

The family would especially like to thank the caregiver teams at Brackenridge Hospital, West Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, and Hospice for caring for our loved one during her final year of life.
