Delores Rae Halm Scharschmidt passed from her earthly life to her Heavenly life on Tuesday, April 1, after a yearlong battle with leukemia. Delores was born on Feb. 19, 1935, in Mendoza, Texas, to Monroe Halm and Hilda Erhlich Halm.

Delores attended Austin High and was an important caregiver to her two youngest siblings. On Nov. 13, 1954, Delores married Rudy Scharschmidt. D

elores was the bookkeeper for Rudy’s Mendoza Garage and had that most important job of full time wife and mother to their three daughters. Throughout her girls” school years she was an active homeroom mother, band booster and supporter of any activities that her girls participated in.

While in the Lockhart area, Delores and Rudy were active members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Niederwald. In 1983, Delores and Rudy moved to Gruene, Texas, near New Braunfels, where their new church home became First Protestant Church of New Braunfels. Very active in the church’s hospitality and altar preparation ministries, Delores made many life-long friends and touched many lives.

Delores never met a stranger and was loved by her neighbors, friends and family members. A loving caregiver to Rudy in his final years, Delores was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rudy in 2004,

Delores was also preceded in death by her dad, Monroe, mother, Hilda and younger baby sister, Esther; sister-in-law, Lanell Scharschmidt, and brother-in-law, David Dossey.

She is survived by her children Debra Yarbrough and husband, John, Patti Scharschmidt and grandson Christopher Godsey, and Carol Troy and husband, Marc. Delores is also survived by her sisters, Joyce Dossey, Shirley Chustz and husband, Tommy, and Janell Hewitt, her brother Frank Halm and wife, Georgie, and brother-in-law, Ferd Scharschmidt. Her cousins, Virginia Buchanan, Gary Halm and Charles Halm along with cousins-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families are also among her many survivors.

Visitation was held at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart on Friday, April 4, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., with services on Saturday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. and graveside prayers and readings at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Martindale with Rev. Rick Van Atter officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Brad Bounds, Kenneth Dossey, Andy Halm, Cayce Halm, Gary Halm, Alton Homann, Ervin Ray Homann, Lyndon Homann, Tyler Jennings and Quentin Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider an offering to First Protestant Church of New Braunfels at 172 W. Coll St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.

The family would also like to especially thank all of the kind and loving caregivers at San Gabriel Rehab and Nursing Facility, Seton Williamson Hospital and Wyoming Springs Assisted Living Facility all in Round Rock. All of you have made the last year much easier on Mother and the family.
