Lt. Col. Don L. Pfefferkorn, (USAF-Ret.), passed away on March 24, 2011, at the age of 80 years.

Don was born in Maxwell, Texas, and moved with his parents, Lee and Maggie Pfefferkorn and sister, June, to Lockhart when he was an infant. He attended Lockhart high school and graduated with a football scholarship to Texas A & M. Upon graduation, Don served in the Air Force

for 24 years. He received his master’s degree from the University of Dallas.

During his military career he received numerous commendations for meritorious service and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1975. Don’s Air Force career took him from Brookley AFB, Mobile, Ala., to Madrid, Spain, to Columbus, Miss., to the Inspector General’s Office at Headquarters, 2nd Air Force, Barksdale AFB, La., to Carswell, Ft. Worth to Wright-Patterson, Dayton, Ohio. Colonel Pfefferkorn was a graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology Education With Industry program, serving at General Dynamics, Fort Worth.

Don was chief of DCASO Texas Instruments. He was with DCASR Dallas as assistant to the commander. Prior to coming to DCASR, Colonel Pfefferkorn was the staff procurement officer for the 21st Air Base Group, Elmendorf, Alaska. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, The Masonic Lodge #1109 and New Braunfels Senior Center.

Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christine Berry, and sons, Richard Pfefferkorn and wife, Debbie, of Austin, and Craig Pfefferkorn and wife, Lisa, of Wimberley; stepsons, Thomas Berry, of Princeton, W.Va., and John Berry, of Austin; and grandchildren Kelley and Stacey Pfefferkorn, Marc Paradise and Will Berry.

A memorial service, honoring Don’s life was held at 2 p.m. on March 28, 2011, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Chapel in New Braunfels. Private interment was scheduled in Lockhart, Texas.
