Edith Ethel Scoggins, 85, of Lockhart, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Austin. She was born on Jan. 18, 1924, in Travis County, Texas to Jacob and Mary Ann (Thompson) Johnson.

Ms. Scoggins was preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Mary Johnson; husband, Justin Duane Scoggins; brothers: Jacob “Jake” Johnson and Marion “Bubba” Sammons; and sisters:

Dora Lee Wallace and Eugenia Brewer.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Palmer, of Germany, and Marion Duane Scoggins, of Diball, Texas, and her daughter, Michele Davidson of Kemp, Texas. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ms. Scoggins worked for Singer in Milford, Ohio, and later in Texas. She retired from Singer after 25 years of service. She then worked for Tracor for ten years then retired from there.

While living in Ohio, she belonged to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. While living in Lockhart, Ms. Scoggins attended the First-Lockhart Baptist Church.

Edith always had a smile for everyone. She loved to talk about the “Good Ol’ Days.” She loved a good joke and to tell one every now and again as well. Ms. Scoggins will be missed by all she knew.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart with Rev. Gary Rogers officiating. Interment was held at Live Oak Cemetery in Buda, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers were: Kevin Van Norman, Britt Mullen, Jake Wallace, Jr., H.E. Nauman, Lucian Wallace and Eddy Wallace. Honorary pallbearers were: Jesse Scoggins, Marion D. Scoggins, Charles Palmer, Tommy Lowe, Travis Davidson and Louis Weaver.
