Eight area residents have thrown their hats into the ring as candidates for the three “at large” positions on the Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees.

Filing for the May 9, 2009, election closed on Monday, March 9, leaving candidates with just over eight weeks to plead their case to voters.

>The three incumbent At Large Trustees, John Flores (May 1999 – present), Juan Alvarez, Jr., (May 2006 – present) and John Manning (May 2006 – present) have all filed for re-election.

The trio will be joined on the ballot by former board member Dennis Placke, and newcomers Tom Guyton, Chip Pittman, Carl M. Cisneros and Duane Limbaugh.

The seated LISD Board has been besieged by problems arising from instability in the position of Superintendent. However, stability and progress have returned to the district in recent months, and preparations have been underway not only for the coming election, but for the future population growth expected in the district.

Early voting for the May 9, 2009, election begins on April 27. Watch upcoming issues of the Lockhart Post-Register for information about the candidates running for election and other information about LISD.
