Ernest Ruiz, age 88 of Cuero passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015. He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Beeville to Manuel Ruiz Sr. and Emilia G. Ruiz.

He was a proud World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from Alcoa after 33 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Juanita Ochoa Ruiz, of Cuero; daughters: Rebecca (Manuel) Calderon, of Houston, Emilia “Emily” (John)

Baker, of Victoria, Herminia “Minnie” (Flo) Salinas, of Lockhart, and Janie R. (Jerry) Villarreal, of San Antonio. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Manuel Ruiz, Jr. and Jose Oscar Ruiz; and sisters, Elviria Cano and Emma Reyna.

Ernest had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed tremendously by all who knew him.

Visitation will begin Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 from 5 – 9 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Artero Memorial Chapels in Victoria. Viewing to resume Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at 8:15 a.m. with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Father Philip Brune to officiate. Burial to follow with full military service under the auspice of Victoria Council Veterans Council AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, WS, KWV at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
