The clock is ticking for May”s Lockhart Independent School District (LISD) board of trustees election.
LISD approved an order calling both a regular and a special election on Monday evening during the regular meeting of the LISD Board of Trustees. District Places 1-4 are up for natural election in May 2005. The fifth sea

t, an at-large position occupied by John Flores, is the product of Flores” appointment after the unexpired term of Trustee Benjamin Smith in February 2004.
Filing was opened for candidates in the Special Election for the at-large position on Jan. 25, 2005, immediately after the approval of the election order. Any potential candidate interested in filing for the position must do so prior to the close of business on April 6.
Additionally, the four “precinct” places will come up for election in May. The filing period for these positions runs from Feb. 7, 2005 until March 8, 2005.
The order also establishes a March 14, 2005 deadline for potential candidates to file for write-in candidacy for the General Election (Places 1-4).
Should a candidate decide to run for one of the available seats on the LISD Board of Trustees, it is recommended that they request a list of registered voters for the purpose of mail-out material before April 15, 2005.
The election for vacated school board seats will be held on May 7, 2005.
