On Saturday, May 21, 2005, our dad, Frank Leon Weiss, went to be with the Lord. He passed away in the presence of his family on the Carlton farm near Lockhart.
Dad was born Feb. 21, 1928 near Shamrock, Texas to Frank D. and Mary Weiss. His fondest memories were of growing up on the family farm near Shamrock with his brother Glenn and sisters Viola (Olie) and Nadine.

Dad left high school and joined the Army, serving with the Merchant Marine, then the Air Corps. While in the Air Corps, he met and married our mother, Nancy Nell Carlton. Mom and Dad raised five children before they parted: Beverly, Carl, Mary Lynn, Curt and Collin. He also was married for several years to Belia Torres.
Dad graduated from Texas A University with a B.S. in Agronomy. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service for several years before he began doing the work he loved most, truck driving. He also earned a teaching certificate, specializing in math. He taught school first in Lockhart, then in Waelder, Cotulla, Hays Consolidated and Gary Job Corps.
Dad is survived by his brother and wife, Glenn and Venita Weiss of Shamrock; his sister, Nadine Westbrook of Pampa; children, Beverly Conley and husband Derel Conley of Austin, Carl and Laverne Weiss of Giddings, Mary Lynn Weiss of Lockhart, Curt and Janet Weiss of Austin, and Collin and Martha Weiss of Austin.
Dad”s grandchildren are Matt and Chris Conley, Frank Carlton Jr. and Ernest Weiss, Erica Labermeyer and Shane Acord, Kevin, Bryan, Aaron, and Kandra Weiss, Angelina, Holly, and Patrick Weiss, and Megan and Madison Weiss. He also had 12 great–grandchildren: Jasmine, Marissa, Nathan, Hope, Donald, Marquisha, Marquis, Siara, Haylee, Joey, Travis and Tori.
His many nieces, nephews, and cousins also will remember him, most from the Texas panhandle. These were his special “domino” buddies, along with his brother Glenn and sister Nadine.
Dad enjoyed many things in life: his family, his “other children,” Pita, Booger, Sugar, and Prieta, dominoes, his morning coffee buddies at Chisholm Trail BBQ, mowing the fields at the farm, coffee with family and friends on his porch, supervising his sons, and trips to see grandchildren.
Our family appreciates the many friends and health care professionals who loved and supported our dad during these last weeks. Your prayers and presence have blessed us.
Pallbearers are Dad”s grandsons: Matt Conley, Chris Conley, Ernest Weiss, Shane Acord, Lance Cpl. Patrick Weiss, Kevin Weiss, Bryan Weiss and Aaron Weiss.
Visitation will be at McCurdy”s on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 7 p.m. Services will be held at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2005, officiated by Dad”s pastor, Barry Chinn from Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin. Interment will follow at the Lockhart City Cemetery.
