The Freshman Maroon team traveled to Kyle and squeaked out a one-point win over the Lehman Lobos on Friday, Jan. 11. The Lions won 49-48.
“The game was a nail biter,” Freshman Coach Steve Garza said. “Schon Colorado was fouled with .87 seconds left on the clock. He was shooting a one-and-one where he made the first free

throw to put Lockhart up by one point. He missed the second free throw as time ran out.”
Scoring 10 points to earn the high scorer title was J. C. Winkler, who has been very consistent this season staying on top of the game with points and plays. Coming in a close second with seven points each were Chris Moody and Brandon Pleasant. Jay Baltierra scored six points, Francisco Jaimes scored five and Colorado, Josh Silva, Jacob Alvarez and Joseph Rodriguez each scored three.
“The team played with the aggressiveness that has been lacking all year,” Garza said, “It was our defensive play that helped us win our first district game. I am very proud of the way the kids played. I feel they are finally understanding how to play the game.”
The Freshman basketball teams continued to have problems with their games on Tuesday, Jan. 8. The Freshman Maroon team fell to the Clemens Buffaloes with a final score of 82-25. The Freshman White team fell less drastically, with a score of 32-23.
Baltierra scored the most points for the Maroon team with a total of eight points. Jaimes made his contribution with six, Landon Pederson made five, Pleasant made three, Alvarez, two and Moody rounded out the 25 with one point.
The high score for the White team came from Winkler who had a total of 13 points. The rest of the points came from Santos Gomez and Bryan McBride, with four points each, and Kyle Medina with two points in the game.
The Freshman teams went up against the New Braunfels Unicorns on Monday, Jan. 14. Check out the Sports Section of next week’s Post-Register for game results.
The Lions will travel to Del Valle to face the Cardinals on Friday, Jan. 18.
See you at the game.
