Gary Lynn Scott, of Austin, died of a massive heart attack on September 17, 2011 at his cottage in Rockport, Texas. Gary was born in Santa Anna, Texas, on Oct. 22, 1956, to Billy Joe and Joyce Rowe Scott; he was 54.

Gary loved life and didn’t let one day get by without experiencing its fullness. Gary Scott could do anything-throw a football the length of the field, build a

house with his own hands, raise up good kids, hunt down a deer, bake cookies, coach little league, tell a joke, hold a baby, provide opportunity for others, fight a courageous battle over cancer, love with all his heart and laugh.

Gary never met a stranger; his smile, quick wit and generous heart endeared many. A man of his word, Gary will be remembered for his common sense, hard work and integrity. His incredible strength, mental and physical, will be a lasting inspiration to all those who knew him.

Gary will be missed by his wife, Donna; his mother, Joyce Scott; his sister, Peggy Edmiston and husband, Dave; son Justin Scott and wife, Katie; son, Hunter Scott; granddaughter, Jovie Kate Scott; stepson, Ben Smith; stepdaughter, Stacy Smith; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends.

A service in Witness to the Resurrection will be held in thanksgiving to God for Gary’s life on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11:00 a.m. in Shelton Chapel on the campus of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, 100 E. 27th Street, Austin, Texas. Following the service, there will be a luncheon in Vickery Atrium.

A memorial service for Gary in Brady, Texas, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1103 W. 17th. We will celebrate Gary’s life with an opportunity of individual sharing of relationships and experiences with this very special man.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary’s honor to Friends of Connie Hagar
