Gayle Grantham-Spencer passed away early Saturday morning, July 11, 2009, in her home, after a hard-fought second battle against cancer.

Gayle was born in San Marcos, Texas, on Nov. 15, 1937, to Milton Charles and Olene Allen Pfeiffer. Gayle grew up in Maxwell. She attended Lockhart High School and graduated in 1956. Gayle was married to her high school sweetheart, A.

Howard Grantham for 48 wonderful years. She later married Thomas Spencer and spent two happy years with him before passing.

Gayle is best remembered for her beauty, kindness, strength and the color red.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and her beloved dog, Nicholas.

Gayle is survived by her three children: Amanda, Cheryl and Gary; grandchild, Andre; second husband, Thomas; cherished dog, Puggy; and many other wonderful family members and dear friends.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Houston, a proud Texan, and a Daughter of the Republic of Texas.

A Memorial Service was held at the First United Methodist Church of downtown Houston, Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from noon – 3 p.m. The family plans a private interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Interfaith Ministries of Houston or the American Cancer Society.
