Howard Laws of Fredericksburg, formerly of Lockhart, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 97. He is survived by his daughter Doris and husband Harold Pieratt of Fredericksburg; grandsons Dr. Bill Pieratt III and wife Lori of La Grange, and Guy Laws Pieratt and wife Laurie of Round Rock; great-grandsons Jordan Laws Pieratt of Brenham and Connor Pieratt of La Grange; gr

anddaughter Laura Pieratt of La Grange; brother John Laws and wife Nelda of Corpus Christi; and special nephew Alton Brooks Laws Jr. and wife Joyce of Mustang Ridge. Howard was preceded in death by his wife Edith, parents Fred and Clara Camp Laws of Lockhart and brothers Alton, Preston and Jasper Laws.
Howard started farming as a teenager with his parents on the family farm in Mendoza, Texas. He later had his own farms at Mendoza and Creedmoor raising cotton, corn, maize, and Hereford cattle. At the age of 50 he became a realtor, opening up the Howard Laws Real Estate Company in the Alamo Hotel on Sixth Street in Austin. He eventually built a home in Lockhart where he moved his office and sold real estate until he was 95 and becoming one of the oldest realtors in the state. Howard wrote a book at the age of 90 titled “Ninety Years of History, Mostly Local, as Seen Through the Eyes of Howard Laws.”
Howard married Edith Blackwell and they celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 21, 1996. He was a faithful member of First Lockhart Baptist Church and served as deacon since August of 1947. The celebration of his Christian life was held at First Lockhart Baptist Church on Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. Graveside services followed at Lockhart City Cemetery with McCurdy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
