I.J. “Ike” Kallus

Dearest husband, father, son, friend, San Antonio Spurs fanatic and educator, I.J. “Ike” Kallus passed away quietly on the morning of April 25, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 2, 1932.
He was laid to rest in the Luling Cemetery.
“Ikie” as those who knew him best called him, is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara Kallus; daughter, Ca

thleen; grandson, Kevin; brothers, Alfred and Patrick; and numerous cousins.
In his 75 years, Ikie did his best to make his small part of the world a better place. After graduating from Luling High School, he helped his mother run Kallus Grocery for several years.
During this time he started a Boy Scout troop at St. John”s Catholic Church.
He then attended Southwest Texas State Teachers” College in San Marcos, earning both a bachelor”s and master”s degree in Education, then serving his community as a teacher and Special Education Supervisor for 38 years. During this time he volunteered his time and service to several local organizations: the Prairie Lea ISD as a School Board member, Head Coach for Lockhart”s Special Olympics, the Lockhart Breakfast Lions Club, the Luling Meals on Wheels program, and St. John”s Catholic Church.
Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Human Society.
