In Loving Memory Mr. Jesus Leal Caballero

Jesus “Jesse” Caballero, born May 6, 1928, a longtime Lockhart resident, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the age of 76. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Mr. Caballero was preceded in death by: Jesusa Leal, mother; Tiburcio Caballero, fa

ther; Pedro Caballero, brother; Johnny Caballero, son; Mary Alice Caballero, daughter; Maria de Jesus Caballero, daughter; Erica Caballero, granddaughter; Juan Jesus “JJ” Caballero, grandson; and Felimon Perales, son-in-law.

His strong work ethic, unwavering integrity and commitment was reflected in his honorable service in the National Guard, his 20 years with the Burnip and Sims Co. in Austin, Texas and his 15 years with the Armo Feeds Company in Lockhart, Texas.

His real treasure was his family; he reveled in family gatherings and celebrations where he was surrounded by music, laughter and fellowship. He will be remembered best for his mischievous sense of humor, unconditional generosity, the legacy of life and his beloved Rio Grande Valley.

As the Patriarch of the Caballero family, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Torres; daughter Lupe Morin and husband Joe; daughter Frances Perales; daughter Florence Raymond and husband Darrell; daughter Eloisa Jefferies and husband Mike; son Pete Caballero; son Jesse Caballero, Jr. and wife Rosie; son Paul Caballero and wife Suzanne; daughter Irene Flores and Rene Gonzales; daughter Gloria Perez and husband James; son Toby Caballero and Sally Vargas; and daughter-in-law Ninfa Caballero. Mr. Caballero is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings: Tomasa Ybarra of Santa Rosa; Lupe Caballero, Sr. of Harlingen; Samuel Caballero, Sr. of San Antonio, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Mark Anthony Lopez, Mario Morin, Marcos Morin, Mark Perales, Matthew Arias, Chris Lopez, Keith Caballero, Corey Paul Caballero, and Anthony Alonzo.

The Rosary service was held on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the DeLeon Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Martindale, Texas, with burial service immediately following at St. Mary”s Catholic Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
