It’s Show time! CCJLS starts Friday

The Caldwell County Show Barn comes alive this week as hundreds of local youth prepare for the 39th annual Caldwell County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. With a full weekend of family friendly activities, the Caldwell County Fair Association hopes to bring a new level of interest and understanding ab

out agriculture and ranching.

Friday’s schedule is planned as follows:

Broilers – 8 a.m.

Turkeys – Immediately Following

Market Lambs – 10 a.m.

Ewes – Immediately Following

Goats – Immediately Following

Breeding Goats – Immediately Following

Market Rabbits – Not Before 2 p.m.

Breeding Rabbits – Immediately Following

Short Term Rabbits – Not Before 4:30 p.m.

Immediately after the Short-Term Rabbits are judged, a new event designed to offer entertainment to the public and interest for the children will make

Little Wrangler Hay Hauling is a team event introduced last year, geared toward children ages 3-5. Each team consists of two children, who will use teamwork to perform a hay-hauling course. One child will pull a wagon across the pre-set course in the Show Ring, while the other runs alongside the wagon and loads small bales of hay.

The timed event will offer trophies to the first, second and third place team winners.

Registration for the Little Wrangler Hay Hauling will be available in the Show Barn all day on Friday.

Saturday’s schedule will remain set as it has been in the past, as follows:

Market Hogs – 8 a.m.

Breeding Gilts – Immediately Following

Steers – 10 a.m.

Breeding Beef – Immediately Following

Overall Showmanship – Immediately Following

Pet Show – Not before 2 p.m.

After the Show is done and the Ring is clear, the public is invited back to the Show Barn for a Barbecue Dinner beginning at 4 p.m., and then the main event, the CCJLS Auction, beginning at 6 p.m.

Those who many not have the budget to buy a project are reminded that there are other ways to offer financial support to the hard work of CCJLS exhibitors. As ever, donors can contact Kenneth Sneed at (512) 398-3416, and Daniel Law at (512) 398-6777 to make donations toward one of the CCJLS Buyers’ Groups.

The Caldwell County Fairgrounds and Show Barn are located on Reed Drive, between the Caldwell County LW Scott Annex and the Caldwell County Jail.
