Jerald Parrish “Jerry” Sanders died of a heart attack at his home on Sunday, Feb. 13. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Sanders; sons Russell Sanders and wife Martha of Buda; Joe Canning and wife JoEllen of Friendswood; Jimmy Canning and wife Kim of Houston;

Johnny Canning and wife Gwen of Austin; and Jeff Canning and wife Tracy of Austin; daughter Cathy Kramer and husband Mike of Belton; and sister Linda Sue Moore and husband John of Luling. He had 22 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sanders, his brother Ray Sanders, his son Jerald Lee Sanders and his grandson Wes Canning.
Jerry was born on July 24, 1931 in Lockhart, Texas, graduated from Prairie Lea High School, and attended college at Southwest Texas State University before serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 – 1954. After a long career in the insurance business, he retired in 1995. He was very active in the communities of Lockhart and Luling, serving as a long-time coach and board member of the Lockhart Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball programs, a member of the Lockhart Jaycees, the American Legion, and the Luling Chamber of Commerce.
Visitation was held on Tuesday Feb. 15 from 7 – 9 p.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, all at the McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Burial will follow at the Mercer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
