John A. Schick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed from this earth on Nov. 28, 2014, while surrounded by loving family and friends. John was born on May 29, 1950 in Santa Fe, N.M. and spent most of his younger life growing up in Seattle, Wash. He graduated from Chief Sealth High School in Seattle in 1968 and attended the University of Washington, w

here he graduated with a B.A. in chemistry with a minor in physics in 1972.
Shortly thereafter, he went to work for the Garrett Callahan Company, a water treatment company, where he worked for 33 years, eventually becoming District Manager for the Pacific Northwest.
He married his best friend, Sandy Getchell, in December 2003 on the longest white sand beach in Hawaii, then retired in 2006 and moved to the Texas Hill Country, taking up residence in Wimberley, Texas. He recently opened up a hearing center in Lockhart, Texas – Longhorn Hearing, PLLC – with his wife, Sandy.
John was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, tennis, skiing, fishing, hunting, sailing, canoeing, bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, trap shooting, archery, and ranching. He loved his two Australian Shepherd dogs, Shiner and Tater, and all of his five horses. He built two beautiful custom homes in the past 10 years, one in Washington State and one in Wimberley. He was very hard working and was a perfectionist at all that he did.
John was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schick, and his mother, Corma Schick, of Federal Way, Wash.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Schick, of Wimberley; his sons Jason Schick (Ruby) of Bellevue, Wash., and David Schick (Rosina) of Tualatin, Ore.; daughters, Jennifer Getchell of Portland, Ore., and Jessica Griffin (Will) of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren: Brendon Andrews, Nathan Schick, Connor Griffin, Madison Griffin and Aven Schick; mother-in-law, Joan Hanson of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, Don Hanson (Jennifer) of Canyon Lake, Texas; sisters, Gwen Smith (Dan), Natalie Poss (Bill), Karen Steward (Dan), all of Washington State, and Barbara Bruffy (Alan) of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a private celebration of John’s life at his home in Wimberley for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions on behalf of John Schick to: Habitat for Horses or South Texas Aussie Rescue.

    A great man and boss. Hired me when I was fresh out of the UW and got my career going. He was very talented and gifted, most likely a genius. I will miss him even though it has been many years since working with him. Sad to hear this.
