Joseph “Matt” Billingsley passed away June 17, 2011, at the age of 41. He was born on Sept. 7, 1969 to Bill H. and Mary Lou Billingsley. He married Sandy Nelson March 11, 2011.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Mary Lou Billingsley, of Longview; his wife, Sandy Billingsley, of Lockhart; one unborn daughter, Haley Billingsley, of Lockhart; one brother, Harris Billin

gsley, of Katy; and close friends and colleagues: John Sisemore, II, of Lockhart, Russell Moore and family, of Cedar Creek, Dottie and Ross Bransford, of Cedar Creek; his Masonic Brethren; his dog and companion, Ty; and various other relatives and friends.

Matt was raised in Longview, Texas.  He graduated high school in 1988 with a scholarship to Kilgore Community College.  He also attended S.W.T and graduated with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice. Then, in February 2007, he founded and was president of Central Texas Protection Training Academy and Lone Star Gun Range.

He was elected to be Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #690. He also enjoyed riding his horse Dakota and was an avid softball player. He was blessed to witness both his maternal and fraternal grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversaries.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at McCurdy Funeral Home.

    I was very blessed to have known Matt. He was a great man and teacher. God Bless. He is in good hands now and still watching over us.
