Joseph Spence, 93, of Lockhart, passed away peacefully at Luling, Texas, on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. Mr. Spence was born in Lockhart to Benjamin and Suzette Smith Spence on June 10, 1915.
He worked for the University of Texas for many years before his retirement as a custodian. Mr. Spence was of the Methodist faith.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Elnetta

Spence, on March 17, 2006.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Carol Allen, Kami Salinas, Orvis Davis, Jr., Colan Dewitt Davis, Lance Shannon, Terrence Davis, Katina Shannon, Kenny Spence and Denise Spence; fifteen great-grandchildren; Zelma Brawley; and a host of cousins and devoted friends.
A visitation and viewing was held on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Eeds Funeral Home Chapel in Lockhart. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at the Hooks Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas with Pastor Cynthia Ladson of St. James A.M.E. church officiating.
