JV Lions skin Rattlers 10-6, remain undefeated in district

The Junior Varsity Lions traveled to San Marcos on Friday for their second district game against the Rattlers and came away victorious.

In a hard-fought battle, the Lions jumped out to a lead by scoring one run in the opening inning on an RBI single by George DeLeon. The Rattlers tallied a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

he third kept the Rattlers from taking the lead, squashing their attempt at a rally and stranding the leadoff batter on third base. The Lions scored twice in the for a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, with a leadoff single by J.B. Alvarez and an RBI double from Jacob Alvarez. Once again San Marcos battled back and tied the score in the bottom of the inning.

The Lions took the lead again in the top of the sixth, scoring twice to take a 5-3 lead in the tightly contested game.

The Rattlers came back yet again, this time taking the lead for a portion of the game. Benefiting from a Lion error and walks, the Rattlers plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-5 lead.

The Lions showed their grit and determination in the top of the seventh inning. Tyler Crawford led off with an infield single, stole second base and was able to score the tying run after errant throws by the Rattler catcher and center fielder. After walks to Joseph Garcia and Dalton Dabbs, Will Rodriguez and Jacob Alvarez followed with infield singles. Cody James added a single, driving in two runs to complete the game-winning rally. The Lions scored a total of five runs in the inning and took the lead for good, sealing the 10-6 victory over the San Marcos Rattlers.

The victory raised the Lions’ district record to 2-0. The Lions will travel to Elgin to take on the Wildcats in a district match-up on Friday, March 27. First pitch is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
