Lady Lions dominate Clemens 9-0

Over the week of Spring Break, the Lady Lion varsity softball team picked up another district win, this time defeating the Buffalos from Samuel Clemens 9-0.

On Tuesday, March 15, Lockhart shut out Clemens scoring early in the first and second innings.

Morgan Rives started the rally with a double, followed by Chelsea Capello also grabbing

a double with an RBI to start the first inning.

In the second inning back-to-back singles came from Mackinzee Griebel, Taylor Rives, and Brianna Ortiz, who also pulled in two RBIs.

Clemens committed two errors leaving the score 6-0 in Lockhart’s favor.

The Lady Lions weren’t finished scoring just yet, as M. Rives slammed a three-run homerun over the centerfield fence. This would put the score at 9-0 Lady Lions.  Lockhart’s defense was errorless, while Katrina Mills showed a solid performance at third base, making several key plays and tags.

Jarin Hazelett scored two runs for Lockhart as she relieved A. Capello from her base running duties as courtesy runner. Seniors Taylor Rives and Amanda Capello represented the battery for Lockhart.

T. Rives struck out 10 Buffalos and held them to three hits on the night. A. Capello also had a strong defensive performance throwing out two base runners.

Offensive highlights include Griebel and T. Rives (2-5);  Ortiz (3-4); M. Rives (2-4, with one homerun and four RBIs); C. Capello and Mikaela Flores with a double each; and Jessica Henderson and Gabby Ybarra each adding a single.

The Lady Lions are now 3-0 in district play. They hosted Hays at home on Tuesday,  March 22 and will travel to Canyon Friday, March 25.
