Lady Lions excel at Austin tourney

The Lockhart Lady Lions Women’s Soccer Team played in the Copa Akins Tournament this past weekend.

After starting out the tournament with a 4-1 win over Lanier High School, a 2-2 tie with LBJ High School, and a 3-1 win over Reagan High School the Lady Lions placed first in their bracket and solidified their spot in the championship game of the tournament on Saturday.

ter a hard and proudly fought match against Akins High School, the game ended in 1-1 tie and went to penalty kicks. The Lady Lions were slightly edged in a 8-9 penalty kick loss.

Tournament goals came from from seniors Morgan Seelinger and Bailey Schaub, junior Madison Winnett, sophomores Arissa Perez and Laura Munoz, and freshman Cristal Trejo, and a phenomenal effort in goal from junior Madison Gray.

The defensive line of Maria Castelan-Benitez, Quinn Decene, Jocelyn Garcia, Erin Lindsey, Cassidy Schmidt and Serenity Alva held very strong by allowing only five goals all tournament.

The midfield comprised of Jamie Fuentes, Arissa Perez, Keely Schaub, Morgan Seeliger, Cristal Trejo and Judea Rivera won battles all over the field. The front line of Yoselyn Gutierrez, Laura Munoz, Madison Winnett and Bailey Schaub were a constant threat.

Juniors Madilyn Shaw, Randa Homann and senior Andrea Gutierrez although injured supported their teammates on the field.

The Lady Lions fought proudly in a tournament stacked with Austin schools and brought home a second place trophy
