Leona Alma Best passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2015, at the age of 94. She was born Feb. 26, 1920, to Fritz and Frieda Schulle Germer in Maxwell, Texas.

Leona was a lifelong resident of Maxwell and belonged to the following organizations: A life-long member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Herman and Sons Lodge, charter member of the Birthday Club and the Maxwell Social

Club. She had a great passion for gardening and was an avid quilter.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Teddy L. Best in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy, and husband Darrell Hess; son, Ronald, and his wife Louise Best of Lakewood, Col.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services are set for a visitation before the service at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell, Texas, beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Craig Sagebiel officiating. Serving as the pallbearers will be: James Hess, Donald Fehlis, Steve Visage, Charles Nowotny, Benjamin Visage and Bruce Germer. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Martindale, Texas. There will be a reception after at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Maxwell, Texas.

    Our deepest sympathy to the families of Nancy and Ronnie. She led a rich and full life and left us with good memories.

    I was sorry to learn of Leona’s passing. I got to know her when David and I lived in Maxwell and I was a member of the birthday club. She was a very lovely lady. God bless the family.
