To the Editor:
The 42nd Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup (CTR) is just around the corner and, as new members of the Caldwell County community, we are very excited to see what this year has in store. The opportunity to participate in this historic event is one that we have looked forward to since we first learned about its mission and activities. That’s

why we were disappointed to learn that the TCEQ Public Meeting relating to our pending permit application will be held the same night as the crowning of the CTR Queen and Little Miss CTR and the “Awesome Auction.”
We had hoped the meeting would have been scheduled at another time than the night of an important event for the Caldwell community. Unfortunately, as a statewide commission, TCEQ is simply not always able to schedule meetings around local community events.
We would like nothing better than to be on hand to further support Project Graduation at the silent auction and to congratulate the Queen and Little Miss CTR. However, I want to make it clear that we care deeply about this community, which is why we are sponsoring the Roundup Kick-Off Party, made other donations to the events, and participating in all other Roundup festivities.
As a reminder, community members attending the CTR festivities on Thursday can still make their voice heard at the public meeting. Citizens are encouraged to submit written comments anytime during the meeting or by mail or electronically before the deadline for submitting public comments to the Office of the Chief Clerk, TCEQ, Mail Code MC-105, P.O. Box 13087, Austin, Texas 78711-3087 or electronically at www.tceq.texas.gov/about/comments.html.
Additionally, we have been informed that there will be a second public meeting on the permit application that will be scheduled by TCEQ in the future. And there will be other opportunities to participate in the permitting process as the application progresses.
While we regret that we will be unable to attend Thursday night’s activities, we look forward to the rest of the festival. I want to wish everyone an enjoyable and safe Roundup.
