Lockhart police confirmed on Thursday morning that an arrest had been made on Wednesday evening of a member of the Lockhart High School staff who has been accused of having an “improper relationship with a student.”

The arrest came just one day after administrators from Lockhart High School rep

orted they had been informed about the possibly inappropriate behavior, Lockhart Police Chief Mike Lummus said. The suspect was arrested at her home in Kyle after search warrants were executed on her home and her work space.

According to reports, the 42-year-old professional may have maintained contact with the former student, who is now 19, for nearly a year. Though authorities are not certain the extent of their relationship, it is thought to have begun after the man turned 18, but before he graduated last May. Though he was legally an adult, the relationship has fallen under scrutiny because he was still a student when the alleged interactions began.

The suspect has been identified by the Lockhart Police Department as Patricia Porter; her identity and position at Lockhart High School has not been officially confirmed by the Lockhart Independent School District, but Lockhart High School lists a “Tricia Porter” as Librarian. After her arrest, Porter was booked into the Caldwell County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.

Though police said they were at the initial stages of the investigation, Caldwell County District Attorney Trey Hicks said it is likely he will seek a felony indictment in the case. Among the means of communication being reviewed, Lummus said the police have looked at both text and online messages.

In a brief written statement released on Thursday afternoon, Lockhart ISD Superintendent Jose Parra released a brief written statement about the arrest, wherein he confirmed that the District was cooperating with law enforcement, and taking the allegations seriously. The release confirmed that the district had placed an employee on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The release did not name Porter specifically, and declined further comment pending the outcome of the investigation.

Thats number two this year, Pat Porter and Coach Knox. What horrible administrators for hiring these nasty people. Administrators NEED to ACTUALLY LOOK at background checks, etc etc because THIS IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL. As a student at LHS, i am disappointed in the administration.

We had stuff like this a lot in the 80’s at Lockhart High School. No one made big deals like they do now. I could name several teachers and w/ each student they were with!

You’re right Cynthia. No one paid any mind to a senior sleeping with the Drill Team sponsor in 1984-85. No one cared. As for Trey Hicks, he would try to get a felony indictment against a baloney sandwich. This guy is on a messed up power trip. Someone please vote him out of office.

I don’t believe we are saying it is or was okay. We are trying to make a point! LHS was my high school ’84 – ’86. This is not anything new and I find it strange that it’s only now coming out. I feel LHS needs to do better back ground checks on their teachers. Also, all the staff need to keep their eyes open and watch for signs coming from children w/ relations to a teacher. If it’s going on, it’s not hard to spot. All we’re saying is it was very noticeable back then and even bribed about from fellow classmates. I don’t feel in anyway it is okay!
