Lions vs. Elgin
The Lockhart Lions’ varsity basketball team traveled to Elgin for their last game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 15, resulting in a 59-51 victory over the Elgin Wildcats.
The Lions matched Elgin basket for basket in the first quarter with each team scoring 13 points.
During the second quarter, the Wildcats gained the lead as

their strong defense only allowed Lockhart to score eight points. Elgin scored another 13 points ending the first half with a 21-26 advantage over Lockhart.
After the halftime break, the Lions came out strong offensively, outscoring the Wildcats 15-13 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Lockhart’s defense only allowed Elgin to score 12 points while their offense scored 22 points giving them the 59-51 win.
High scorer for the Lions was senior guard Jacob Alvarez with 24 points including 13 out of 15 free throws.
Scoring in the double-digits was senior point guard Garrett Shafer with 12 points. Also contributing to Lockhart’s victory were sophomore forward Michael Schulle with nine points, senior forward Jonathan Sanders with six points, junior guard Chris Hodges with six points and junior forward Michael Black with two points.
The Lions finished the season with a 14-18 overall record and 6-6 district record.

Lions vs. Elgin
The Lockhart Lion freshman basketball team played their last game of the season against the Elgin Wildcats on Tuesday, Feb.15.
The Lions jumped out to a 10-5 lead after the first quarter. However, they went cold from the floor during the second quarter leaving the score 14-21 at halftime.
The second half was an up-tempo game as both teams heated up from the floor. Lockhart scored 27 points while Elgin scored 33 points giving them a 41-54 victory.
Scoring for the Lions were Casey Butler with 11 points, Bre Dones with nine points, Anthony Tovar with eight points, Ryan Carrasco with five points, Johnathan Gonzales with three points, Joseph Torres with two points, Caesar Martinez with two points and Gerald Cuellar with a free throw.
“As a coach I enjoyed working with these young men,” said Coach Mark Brown. “I saw improvements each week during practice and at games. Also I saw the kids begin to bond as a team. They also bonded with Dyrac Thomas and myself. We would also like to thank these young men for competing and playing basketball as a freshman.”

Lions vs. Hawks
The Lockhart Lion freshman basketball team met the Hendrickson Hawks on the court Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Even though the Lions fell short of a victory, 49-53, Coach Brown felt “the team played an awesome game against the Hendrickson Hawks.”
After the first quarter, the Hawks led 14-11 over the Lions. Gonzales scored six points while Cuellar scored five points.
During the second quarter, the Lions outscored the Hawks, 15-12, with Shane Sellers scoring eight points, Tovar scoring three points, Gonzales scoring two points and Cuellar scoring two points.
The third quarter was the difference in the game that the Hawks needed for the victory. Hendrickson outscored Lockhart 19-8. Scoring for the Lions in the third were Carrasco with two points, Dones with two points, Gonzales with two points, and Tovar with two points.
The Lions made a scoring run in the fourth outscoring the Hawks 15-9. Carrasco added five points, Dones added four points, Cuellar added four points and Gonzales added two points.
Lockhart’s high scoring output in the last quarter wasn’t enough to grab the win as Hendrickson walked away with the 49-53 victory.
Leading scorers for Lockhart were Gonzales with 12 points, Cuellar with 11 points, Sellers with eight points, Carrasco with seven points, Dones with six points and Tovar with five points.
