Lion harriers dominate Moulton

The Lockhart Boys Cross Country teams traveled to Moulton last Saturday to compete in the Moulton Invitational. The Lions won the large school division with just 26 points. Navarro finished second with 76 points. The Tigers from Smithville were third overall with 82, followed by Bellville in fourth with 92 points, and Columbus completed the top five teams in the standings with

131 points.

Lockhart was led by junior standouts Sergio Moreno and Taylor Stephens who finished first and second overall with times of 17:41 and 18:11, respectively.

Sophomores Marco Sillero and Martin Salinas ran strong races to place sixth and seventh, with times of 19:29 and 19:40.

Completing the top five scorers was junior Michael Roehr who placed tenth in 19:50.

Also running on Varsity for the Lion harriers was sophomore Polo Morales. Morales was making his cross country debut for the Lions placed a strong 11th with a fine time of 19:54. Junior Cameron Adams was the seventh finisher for Lockhart placing 13th in 20:32, while brother Dylan Adams finished as the Lions eighth man in 21:53.

“I was so proud of how our kids competed,” Head Coach Scott Hippensteel said. “Despite having very little experience, I thought we ran very well. You can really see these kids improving each and everyday. They are really excited to see themselves improving with every meet and practice we run.”

The Lockhart Boys Junior Varsity also was victorious last Saturday. The JV Lions finished first out of 20 high schools competing.

Joe Angel Trejo led the JV squad finishing third overall with a time of 21:18. Albert Santos placed fifth, Rafeal Martinez, sixth, Jonah Gonzales finished eighth, Joseph Flores, 19th, Denver Carter 23rd, Tyler Spillmann, 24th, Chris Roehr, 28th, Scott West, 34th, Colt Pierce, 36th, Ty Dozier, 37th, Julian Fernandez finished 42 nd, Singer Sanchez, 43rd, Jonas Hinojosa 44th, Josh Hawkins, 46th, and Ivan Hernandez, 48th.

The Lockhart Cross Country teams will be traveling to Shiner this Saturday, Sept. 21 to run in the Shiner Invitational.
