Lion XC sweeps Shiner Invitational

The Lockhart Boys Varsity Cross Country Team swept the top five places to win the Shiner Comanche Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a perfect score of 15 points in the 4A and 5A large school division. This impressive win was without three of the Lions top seven runners who were in San Marcos for their SAT exams.

st place with an excellent time of 15:00 on the 2.9-mile course. Finishing a strong second place was Sergio Moreno with a time 15:53, followed by Xavier Espinosa (third place; 16:16), Erik Moreno (fourth place; 16:24), Billy Hernandez (fifth place; 16:32), Baris Fields (seventh place; 16:47) and Taylor Stephens (eighth place; 16:49).

The Lockhart Boys JV Team won the Junior Varsity Division with an excellent score of 23 points, led by sophomore C.J. Sanchez in first place with a time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds.  Martin Salinas finished in 3rd place in a time of 17:30, followed by Marco Sillero (5th place; 17:36), Tyler Tamayo (sixth place; 17:49), Ryan Arms (eighth place; 18:17), Michael Roehr (16th place; 19:12), Robin Rounthwaite (19th place; 19:31), Nic Weatherby (24th place; 19:45), Daniel Mireles (27th place; 20:13), Denver Carter (28th place; 20:16), Tyler Spillmann (38th place; 21:45) and Robert Masters (48th place; 24:44).

“Our kids really stepped up today and ran very strong,” said Coach Scott Hippensteel. “It is really starting to show that we have run in six races and the junior varsity kids have run better and better every week.”

The Lions and Lady Lions varsity teams’ next competition will be on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
