Lions fall short to Hendrickson on court, 78-61

Varsity vs. Hendrickson
The Lockhart Lions” varsity basketball team hosted the Hendrickson Hawks at the Lions” Den on Tuesday, Feb. 7, for a disappointing loss, 78-61.
In their previous match, on Jan. 13, the Lions lost to the Hawks, 68-49.
During the first quarter, the Lions fell behind quickly against Hendrickson, 24-14. However, by the halftime break, L

ockhart lessened the Hawks” lead to six points with a score of 35-29.
Hendrickson played another high-scoring two quarters in the second half leaving Lockhart in the dust. Again, the Hawks went home as an undefeated team against the Lions.
High scorer for the Lions was Mark Black with 18 points including 11 out of 12 free throws. Also adding points to the scoreboard were Brandon Hodges with 12 points, Michael Black with seven points, Chris Hodges with six points, Michael Schulle with six points, Nick Jones with four points, Thomas Elizondo with three points, Alex Joseph with two points, Terrance Waldon with two points, and Kerry Lampkin with a free throw.
The Lions last game was played on Tuesday, Feb. 14, with a home court advantage against the Elgin Wildcats. See next week”s Post-Register for more details of their final game.

J.V. vs. Connally
The Lockhart Lions took on the district leader, the Connally Cougars, at home Tuesday night, Jan. 31.
The Lions played the Cougars tough the first half as the Lions were only down by two points, 27-25.
In the second half the Cougars pulled away as they outscored the Lions, 46-20, to win the game with a 73-45 victory.
Scoring for the Lions were Ryan Carrasco with 12 points, Jonathon Gonzales with 10 points, Jeremiah Johnson with nine points, Clayton Parker with eight points, Jeremy Hill and Anthony Tovar each had two points apiece and Jimmy Mendez and Joseph Gonzales each scored one point apiece.

J.V. vs. Taylor
The Lockhart Lions went down to Taylor Friday night, Feb. 3, and claimed a hand-fought victory over the Ducks.
The Lions were ice cold the first period as they had hard time finding the basket.
The second period was different as the Lions scored 24 points to go into halftime only trailing 25-24.
In the second half, the Lions outscored the Ducks in the second half, 27-16, to gain the victory over Taylor 51-41.
Ryan Carrasco was the leading scorer for the Lions with 21 points. Jonathon Gonzales had nine points, Jeremy Hill had eight points, Joseph Torrez had seven points, and Clayton Parker, Matias Robles, and Jimmy Mendez each scored two points apiece.
“This was a great victory for the Lockhart Lions,” Coach Mark Brown said.
