Lions, Lady Lions struggle to keep up at Lion Relays

The 2009 Lion Relays took off without a hitch on Saturday, March 7. The participants tried hard and the field events and relay races went well.

The Varsity Lions ended the meet with a strong third place showing as a team. The Lions earned 14 points in the field events and 82 in track for a total of 96.

Stony Point fini

shed first with a grand total of 148 points and Smithson Valley was second with 124.

The Junior Varsity Lions finished in fifth place with 24 field points, 43 track points and a total of 67.

Smithson Valley was first with 133 points while Stony Point finished second with 121.

The Varsity Lady Lions finished in eighth place with a total of 48 points. They earned 26 field points and 22 in track.

Westlake took first place with 143 points and Bowie was second with 127.
The Junior Varsity Lady Lions finished in 10th place with 18 points. They had eight points in the field events and 10 in track.

Bowie finished first with 131.5 points and Austin High was second with 112.
Highlights in the meet included first place finishes by Jamie Bennett, Gabby Galvan, Stacy Bell, James Bonn, Xavier Moore, David Dinh, Ryan Gonzales, AJ Maderal Mack O,Neill, Joshua Gonzales, Bobby Dinh and Nathan Moore.

Bennett finished first in the discus event with a distance of 149’0”. Galvan was first in the shot put with a distance of 36’11”. Bell earned first place in the discus with a distance of 144’07”.

Bonn, Thomas, D. Dinh and R. Gonzales finished first in the Medley Relay with a time of 11:13.1

D. Dinh, Maderal, R Gonzales and O’Neill were first in the 4 x 800 Relay with a time of 8:37.1.

B. Dinh finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10, J. Gonzales was first in the Long Jump with a distance of 17’04” and N. Moore was first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:56.

Maderal, Xavier Moore, Daetron Head, Kevin Silva and Mary Woody each finished in second place at the relays.

Maderal was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.4. X. Moore was second in the 100-meter dash at 10.65 and the 200-meter run at 21.87.

Head was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.8 and Silva finished second in the 300 hurdles. Woody was second in the pole vault event with a height of 7’06”.

Bonn finished third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:27.3 and N. Moore was third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.

Fourth place finishers included Bell, J. Gonzales, Sebastian Llamas, Landon Rivera, Noah Tunningley, Kelsie Daily, Alysia Peralez, Jordyn Platt and Aly Gonzales.

Fifth place finishers included Head, B. Dinh, Silva, O’Neill, R. Gonzales, Marcos Gonzales, Brooks Pittman, Michael Pritulsky, Brady Bartsch, Isadeli Tristan, Natalie Carter and Cassie Huckle.
