Lions pluck Taylor Ducks on court

Varsity vs. Taylor
The Lockhart Lion varsity basketball team hosted the Taylor Ducks at the Lions” Den on Tuesday, Jan. 10, resulting in a victorious district game, 63-53.
In the first quarter, the Ducks took over a close lead, 14-13, against the Lions. However, the Lions rallied in the second quarter to outscore Taylor by eight points giving them a 33-26-halfti

me lead.
After the break, the Ducks stepped onto the court with tight defense keeping the Lions to only nine points in the third quarter while they added 10 points to the scoreboard. The Lions rallied again in the fourth quarter to outscore the Ducks, 21-17, and sent them home with a defeat.
High scorers for the Lions was Mark Black with 18 points, Chris Hodges with 10 points, and Terrance Waldon with 10 points including two 3-pointers.
Also contributing to Lockhart”s successful game was Thomas Elizondo with eight points including two 3-pointers, Michael Black with six points, Brandon Hodges with six points including two 3-pointers, Michael Schulle with four points, and Alex Joseph with a free throw.
The Lions” next home game will be against the Connally Cougars on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Lions” Den. Tip-off times are 5:30, 6:30 and 8 p.m.

J.V. vs. Taylor
The Taylor Ducks slip by the Lockhart Lions” junior varsity team with a 54-39 victory at the Lions” Den on Tuesday, Jan 10.
The Lions jumped on the Ducks during the first period 14 – 11. Anthony Tovar made two 3-pointers, Clayton Parker and Ryan Carrcasco also made a 3-pointer apiece and Jonathon Gonzales scored a two-point basket.
The Lions went cold in the second period only scoring five points to the Ducks” 16 points as Taylor claimed the halftime lead 27-19.
During the second half, both teams stayed even. The Lions fought to try to reclaim the lead but Taylor wouldn”t allow them to cut into the lead as the Ducks went on to win 54-39. Scoring for the Lions was Anthony Tovar with 14 points, Clayton Parker with 10 points, Ryan Carrcasco with 10 points, Caesar Martinez with three points, and Jonathon Gonzales with two points.

J.V. vs. Hendrickson
The Lockhart Lions” junior varsity team met another good basketball team as they played Hendrickson Hawks on Friday, Jan. 13.
The Lions had no answer for the Hawks pressure and 3-point shooting as Hendrickson ran by the Lions 73-32.
After one period of play, the Lions fell behind 17-12. At the break the Hawks extended their lead 39-20.
During the second half the Lions couldn”t keep pace with the Hawks as Hendrickson outscored the Lions 34-12 to take a demanding victory over the Lions.
Scoring for the Lions was Jonathon Gonzales with eight points, Clayton Parker and Anthony Tovar with six points apiece, Joseph Gonzales and Joseph Torrez with four points apiece, and Clayton Parker and Stephen Brumley with two points apiece.
