The Lockhart Lion men”s soccer team hosted a scrimmage against Bandera and Pflugerville Monday, Jan. 10.
Defensively, the Lions fought hard on the field against Bandera keeping them scoreless. However, Bandera couldn”t hold the Lions” offense as J.C. Vogel, Nick Stevenson and Luke Sergent each scored a goal.
“Bandera was

a gritty squad who never gave up,” head coach Robert Ardis said. “They had some good players in all areas and luckily we were able to convert our chances.
“They had a tendency to pack a lot of defenders in the box and we had trouble breaking through and utilizing the space on the flanks,” Ardis said.
After a short break, the Lions were back on the field to face Pflugerville.
“This game was very physical to say the least,” said Ardis. “Pflugerville had some tall, strong players who had good speed and excellent skills.”
The Lions pulled out a 2-1 victory after Quinton Allen and David Moore each scored a goal.
“I thought our players responded well when things became heated, and I was pleased to see we didn”t lose our composure when we fell behind early,” Ardis said.
“The defense came together and worked well as a unit and was helped by some excellent play from Joey Theriot and Alex Pfefferkorn.
“Of course, I have to mention what was one of the more amazing goals we have seen here was when Quinton Allen made an 80-yard run from the back and finished a perfect cross from Nick Stevenson at the opposite flank. It was a beautifully placed ball and Quinton did a fine job of trapping it then putting it into the back of the net.”
The Lions will have their first game at the Hays Rebel Cup starting Thursday, Jan. 13, through Saturday, Jan. 15.
On Monday, Jan. 18, the Lions will host New Braunfels Canyon at 6:00 and 7:45 p.m.
