A Dale man was killed Tuesday in Bastrop County after his motorcycle struck a tree in a single vehicle crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the man killed in the crash as Jeremy William Shoumaker, 41, of Dale.

According to DPS reports, Shoumaker was driving west on Texas 21, about a mile west of Cedar Creek, when he lost control of his 2002 Honda CB600 motorcycle. Shoumaker veered off the roadway and struck a tree at about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, DPS spokeswoman Robbie Barrera said on Thursday.

“After the bike struck a tree, Shoumaker was thrown from the motorcycle,” Barrera said.

Barrera said weather conditions were clear and the road, which has a posted speed limit of 65 mph, was dry.

The crash is still under investigation. Barrera said authorities did not know whether speeding or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The crash closed 21 near FM 535 for about two hours on Tuesday evening as authorities cleared and investigated the crash.
