District 1 Pride, the Progressive Club and the City of Lockhart as a co-sponsor will again hold the annual Martin Luther King, Jr, birthday celebration march on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.
This march in honor of his birthday and many accomplishments will begin at 10 a.m. on Market Street behind City Hall, proceed through the downtown area to Commerce Street and then south t

o Martin Luther King, Jr., Industrial Blvd. For those that cannot walk that distance, but want to participate, Durham Transportation will again assist with a bus to and from the destination site.
After a Proclamation is read at the march”s end on MLK, Jr. Industrial Blvd., a speaking program will be held at Cedar Hall (formerly “Manny”s”) at 1621 S. Commerce St. The speaking program, which will include contributions from the community”s leaders and children, will begin around 11 a.m. Keynote Speaker Calvin Wilson is expected to attend the program.
According to District 1 City Council Member Kenny Roland, alcohol will not be served at Cedar Hall during the program.
Residents of Lockhart and surrounding communities are invited to participate.
