Filing opens for 2010 primaries

Political candidates interested in filing for a place on the ballot for the March 2010 Primary Election had their first chance to do so on Friday, Dec. 3.

Both statewide and locally, several key positions are open for election this year, including what promises to be another interesting and hotly-contested race for the

Texas Governor”s Office.

In addition, all 32 of Texas” United States Representatives are up for election this year, as are the offices of Texas” lieutenant governor, attorney general, state comptroller, agriculture commissioner, railroad commissioner and general land office commissioner.

All 150 state representatives are on the ballot in the coming year, as are several state senate positions – including the position held by Sen. Glenn Hegar.

On the local level, the County Judge, County Court at Law Judge, Criminal District Attorney, District Clerk, County Clerk and Justices of the Peace, as well as County Commissioners for Precinct Two and Four will be on the ballot, and discussion is stirring across Caldwell County as to who may or may not seek those positions.

According to records filed with the Caldwell County Clerk”s Office as of press time on Wednesday, both incumbents and political newcomers have filed paperwork designating campaign treasurers – one of the first steps toward and official run for public office.

Among those who have filed such paperwork are:
Edward L. Jarrett – Caldwell County Court at Law Judge (I);
Joe Roland – Caldwell County Commissioner, Precinct 4 (I);
Homer Horne – Caldwell County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 (I);
Bernie Rangel – Caldwell County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1;
Lori Rangel-Pompa – Caldwell County Treasurer (I);
Carol Holcomb – Caldwell County Clerk;
Tina Morgan – Caldwell County District Clerk (I);
Misty Jennings – Caldwell County Clerk;
Gilbert Guerrero – Caldwell County Commissioner, Precinct 2;
Grady Keenan – Caldwell County Commissioner, Precinct 4;
Raymond DeLeon – Caldwell County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4 (I); and
Edward “Eddie” Moses, Jr. – Caldwell County Commissioner, Precinct 2.

Although rumors have swirled throughout the county as to potential candidates for the Caldwell County Judge”s seat, as of press time, no official filings had been made.

However, the filing period is open until Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.
