The Lady Lions ended an exciting season with an edge-of-your-seat loss to the Smithson Valley Rangers in the Regional Quarterfinals on Saturday morning.

The game, originally scheduled on Friday night, was called for rain in the bottom of the third inning, just as the Lady Lions hit their stride.

A first-inning battle left Lockhart on the short end of a 4-0 score, but they

started to turn things around in the second, and were full-steam ahead in the third. After plating two runs, the Lady Lions had one out with the tying run on third, when thunder and lightning strikes caused a 30 minute delay. After more than half an hour of heavy rains, officials decided to delay the game until Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The Lady Lion defense stayed strong on Saturday, only allowing one more run for the Lady Rangers.

Sluggish Lady Lion bats and tight Smithson Valley defense saw the Lady Lions struggle until the bottom of the seventh, when Chelsea Capello reached first base and started a rally that ended with another run scored and the Lady Lions poised to tie the game.

At the end, there just wasn”t enough time left, and the Lady Lions closed their season down 5-4.
