Early figures estimate less than 30 percent of the Lockhart Independent School District”s voters participated in early voting for the upcoming trustee election.
According to election official Lisa Rosson, 401 voters hit the polls between May 1 and May 9 for early voting. The bulk of the district”s voters should visit the

polls on Saturday to cast their vote in what could be a pivotal board election.
Three of the seven seats on the Board of Trustees are up for election on Saturday, with only two of the six candidates being incumbent.
Board president John Flores and vice-president Dennis Placke will face off with Juan Alvarez, Earmine Carter, Rose Dunn-Turner and John Manning to determine which three will occupy the board”s “at large” seats.
The critical issues in this election continue to be the value of Lockhart students” educations, ever-increasing property taxes and the district”s current budget crisis.
Polls will open on Saturday, May 13 at 7 a.m., and remain open until 7 p.m. If all runs smoothly, election results should be posted some time late in the evening on Saturday.
This week, the Lockhart Post-Register includes a special election section, which provides addresses and maps to Saturday”s polling locations. Please see Page 1D of today”s paper for more information.
Other election questions should be addressed to LISD at 398-0000.
