There is little rest for the Lockhart Roaring Lion Band. The day after graduation, 15 LHS Band students attended the 2005 State UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin on May 28, along with thousands of other students from across the state. All of these students qualified at the region contest if February.
Ten of the 15 Lockhart band members were recently-graduated sen

iors who had just returned from the Project Graduation party.
The Saxophone trio of Chris Alvarez, Lucas Halley and Tabytha Rodriguez received a superior rating, as did the flute trio consisting of Hannah Gage, Norah Gage, and Marissa Walker. The brass quintet of Savanna Burch, Ben Eisenberg, Brian Gutierrez, Max Muckelroy, and Jerry Paredes received an excellent rating. The clarinet choir consisting of Ashley Clark, Zandra Hutton, Marie Juarez, Livi Massey, and Vanessa Santiago also received an excellent rating.
Congratulations are in order for Ashley Clark on her second year as Drum Major. Rank leaders Brandi Alvarez, Victoria Bissonett, Chelsea Branning, Savannah Burch, Daniel Chavez, Amanda Clemmons, Stephanie Dodson, Heidi Field, Alyssa Gonzales, Lisa Hernandez, Roland Hernandez, Zandra Hutton, Brandi Ibarra, Sara Madrigal, Lee Miller, Vanessa Santiago, Chris Villegas, and Lloyd White will be helping her in the coming year.
On June 2 and 4 a mini-marching camp was held to prepare for the Chisholm Trail Parade. This was also an opportunity for the incoming freshmen to learn how to march. Another mini-camp will be held on Friday, June 10.
Band members will begin learning the new marching show in July. The band hopes to repeat the success of the last few years.
