On Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in Pflugerville, the Lockhart Lions Boys Varsity Soccer team played against the Pflugerville Hendrickson Hawks in the first round of the 4A State Soccer Playoffs. The Lions were able to secure a playoff spot by finishing the district with a record of 5-5-1.

The Lions came out with a strong attack against the Hawks and played with a tremendous de

termination. The game was marked by great defensive stands from the Lions and some amazing saves from the keeper, Guillermo Juarez.

The Lions and Hawks went into halftime tied 0-0, with both teams getting a few good shots on goal.

The second half was no different. The Lions came out strong and continued to fight, play hard, and make the Hawks earn every possession.

With 15 minutes left, the Hawks were able to score on a header to give them a 1-0 lead.

With time winding down, the Lions pushed up the tempo and forced some good offensive possessions and shots but in the end it was not enough to get the victory.

“Even though the Lions did not come out on the winning end, these young men continued to fight and played with the heart of a champion,” Coach Joshua Johnson said. “It was a tremendous season and this team should be extremely proud of the goals that they accomplished.”
