Though officials at the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office had not released his name to the media, they had an idea as to who was responsible for firing the shot or shots that killed a San Marcos man on Friday.

The suspect, Jesus Castillo, 28, also of San Marcos, was apprehended yesterday in Milwaukee, Wis.

Castil

lo was identified by witnesses as the man who shot 30-year-old John Coronado at El Caribe Bar in Maxwell on Nov. 11. Coronado was transported by private vehicle to Seton Medical Center – Kyle, where he was later pronounced dead.

After collecting witness statements that indicated an altercation at the bar near closing time, investigators with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to locate Castillo, who they learned had family connections in Wisconsin.

A vehicle belonging to his brother was found in a Milwaukee neighborhood where Castillo was known to have connections. He was arrested without incident, and is being held in Milwaukee until he is extradited to Caldwell County.

Investigators have suggested that both Castillo and Coronado are suspected to have gang ties, but it is unclear whether those associations are related to the shooting.
