This week is the last chance to get your ballot for the Lockhart Post-Register’s Best of Caldwell County Readers’ Choice Awards.

In its ninth year, the Best of Caldwell County Readers’ Choice Awards has grown exponentially, with more than 1,000 votes already cast since voting opened on Feb. 5.

“We made some changes this year, to open up more categories, a

nd to give the new businesses in town the chance to be recognized for their over-the-top customer service,” Post-Register publisher Dana Garrett said. “We continue to be overwhelmed, every year, by how popular the poll is, and how many people take the competition seriously.”

Indeed, businesses across Lockhart and Caldwell County proudly display their Best of Caldwell County award certificates, some dating back to the first round of awards in 2005.

“I can’t tell you how many times I answer the phone and have someone asking me who was voted the best restaurant, or the best gift shop,” said Post-Register editor LPR Staff. “This doesn’t just happen during March when we start making announcements, this happens all year long.”

What is more, business owners and volunteers take the competition seriously, often comparingnotes with one another and checking with their customers to see who their favorites are, and why.

“The way our business community continues to grow, and our population and readership continues to change, we have to keep adding new categories, and working with our staff to make sure all the ballots get processed in a fair and unbiased way,” Garrett said.

This year, ballots will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Once all ballots are collected, they will be tabulated by separate sources, with each being unaware of the results brought forward by the others.

Winners will be notified of their bragging rights as “the Best of Caldwell County” beginning in late March, and a full list of winners will be published in a special commemorative issue of the Post-Register on Thursday, April 23.

Cast your votes today. Find your ballot on Page 8B of this week’s Post-Register.
