In connection with the National Association of Town Watch, the Lockhart Police Department, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and citizens across Caldwell County will participate in the 26th annual National Night out on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009.
Although many states hold National Night Out events in August, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) voted to allow

Texas to be one of a handful of states to move National Night out to October, in an effort to increase community participation.
It seems the plan was effective, at least in Caldwell County, where both hosting of and participation in National Night Out block parties has grown steadily over the last several years.
National Night Out block parties offer neighbors the chance to get to know one another in a social atmosphere, while emergency first responders including police, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel visit with them. The cumulative effect, according to NATW, is that neighbors who participate in block parties are more likely to watch out for one another’s property and personal well-being, leading to safer and often healthier communities.
Lockhart and Caldwell County residents who want to participate in National Night Out activities have a variety of block parties and gatherings to choose from, beginning in the early afternoon and lasting well into the evening.
The registered block parties as announced this week by local National Night Out liaisons include:
