Eight candidates are beginning the final push for election to three seats on the Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees.

This year’s election boasts a crop of experienced board members, with half the candidates having prior experience on the LISD Board of Trustees.

Juan Alvarez, Jr., John Flor

es and John Manning are all incumbent at-large board members, while Dennis Placke served on the board for several years prior to 2006.

Two candidates are professional educators. Both Tom Guyton and Duane Limbaugh hold teaching or administrative positions in Central Texas school districts.

Carl Cisneros and Chip Pittman are both lifelong residents of the community who come to the table with professional experience outside the educational realm.

At large elections for the LISD Board of Trustees are different than almost all other elections in the state of Texas. Because three positions are available, each voter has the opportunity to cast three votes. Of those three votes, voters can choose to vote for three candidates, or to vote multiple times for one candidate.

Because the LISD At Large positions are different than other elections in the state of Texas, many voters do not realize they can vote multiple times for one candidate.

The top three vote-getters will be appointed to the three available positions.

Polls will open for early voting in the 2009 LISD Board of Trustees election on Monday, April 27 at 8 a.m. Early voting will be conducted at the Lockhart ISD Central Office, 105 S. Colorado (Highway 183) in Lockhart from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday from April 27 – May 5.

The election will be held and results announced on Saturday, May 9, 2009. See Page 2B of this week”s Post-Register for a full listing of Election Day polling places, and check next week’s Post-Register for a sample ballot.
