Proposed development met with opposition

Citing concerns ranging from the quality of the houses to traffic to the destruction of a beloved jogging trail, a group of Lockhart residents is trying to raise awareness in hopes it can squash a potential city council vote to change zoning that would eventually facilitate construction of a new moderately priced housing development.
At first glance, 270 homes on 67 acres ranging from $205,000-$245,000 might not sound too bad, but not if you ask Spruce Street resident Bill Stanley.
Stanley and other homeowners living near the land in question, which is located at 300 and 411 Mockingbird Lane, filed a petition with the city asking council to reject a proposed zoning change from residential low density to the more flexible planned development district designation.
Stanley’s concerns? Poor drainage, a lack of viable green space, narrow 45-foot-lots, the conversion of a jogging trail to a thoroughfare, and a surge in traffic.
