An Austin woman and her two children were killed Sunday morning in a car accident outside of Lockhart.

At 10:48 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 183, about a mile north of F.M. 2001.

Jessica Marie Oballe, 20, son Matthew Oballe, 3, and eight-month-old daughter Aveana Hicks were heading nor

thbound on Highway 183 when her 1994 Mazda drove off the roadway. The three were on their way home to Austin after visiting family in Luling.

According to preliminary investigation by the Lockhart Police Department, Oballe possibly overcorrected and crossed into oncoming traffic where she collided with a 2004 Dodge Durango.

Oballe and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene while her son was transported by helicopter to Brackenridge with life threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 56-year-old male driver of the Durango and the five occupants, all of Guatemala, were transported to Brackenridge Hospital with various injuries. Tracing the Durango as a rental car, the six were probably on vacation.

“We”re still trying to determine the cause of the accident and the speed of the cars,” said Captain Dewayne L. Dalrymple of the Lockhart Police Department. “All information is pertinent to that.”

Police were looking for a red Ford Mustang that witnesses thought might have more information of the accident. The driver, a Luling resident, came forward Tuesday morning but provided no additional information that would help the investigation. Authorities are not releasing the name of the witness.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact the Lockhart police at (512) 398-4401.
